Daylight Saving Time 2026 and 2027

The dates when clocks spring forward and fall back in the United States, Europe and Australia, with a countdown to the next change where you are.

United States and Canada

Clocks go forward one hour at 2:00 AM local time on the second Sunday in March and back one hour at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in November. Each US time zone changes at 2:00 AM in its own local time, so the switch happens at different moments from coast to coast.

Arizona (except the Navajo Nation), Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands and American Samoa stay on standard time all year. In Canada, most of Saskatchewan and parts of British Columbia, Quebec and Nunavut also skip the change.

Europe and the UK

The European Union and the United Kingdom change on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October, at 1:00 AM UTC, which is the same instant everywhere in Europe. Because the US and Europe use different Sundays, the gap between New York and London is one hour shorter than usual for a few weeks each spring and autumn.

Australia

In the Southern Hemisphere the seasons are reversed. New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia move their clocks forward on the first Sunday in October and back on the first Sunday in April. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia do not use daylight saving time.

"Spring forward, fall back"

When clocks go forward you lose an hour of sleep and the night is one hour shorter: 2:00 AM becomes 3:00 AM. When they go back you gain an hour, and the hour from 1:00 to 2:00 AM happens twice. Phones and computers adjust automatically; ovens, car clocks and some watches need to be changed by hand.

Most of Asia and Africa, including India, China and Japan, do not use daylight saving time. Proposals to stop changing the clocks, such as making daylight saving time permanent in the US, come up regularly, but the dates above are the rules in force in the time zone database today.
